1. Self-Care
This is a REALLY hard sometimes but really important. You are busy focusing on everyone else around you there are a number of times where you forget to focus on you. You need to fill your own cup from time to time in order to continue to help others. Your dreams will happen much quicker when you are well rested, feed properly, mentally rested, physically healthy, etc. I’m not saying that this is something that happens everyday all day, but you know when you’re starting to feel really run down its time to fill your cup. Try to schedule time throughout your week to care for you. Maybe you take 15-20 minutes to meditate, maybe you go get a manicure, maybe you get your workout in, whatever you enjoy doing schedule time for you.
2. Family Break
No i’m not talking about mommy taking off for a girls weekend in Palm Springs (unless you can lol). I’m talking about is every now and then mommy needs a moment to step away from the house work and the kids and relax. This can go hand in hand with self-care. A break from the family might be an hour long trip to a coffee shop where you can sit and relax and enjoy a HOT coffee that doesn’t have to be reheated 400 times throughout your day. Maybe you want to take a trip to sit in the sand and listen to the waves crash for an hour. Maybe you go to a book store and just peruse. Whatever makes mommy happy schedule yourself an hour a week where you leave the kiddos with your spouse/neighbor/sitter/grandparents/whoever and just take a little break to regain your mental clarity.
3. Established Routines
I can’t preach routines enough. Having a set routine for you and your kiddos can mean the difference between your day going smoothly and total pandemonium. Routines help keep kiddos occupied and entertained, routines can help create consistency in your business, routines can create systems that allow for other projects to happen with less hassle. As a mom your routines can be flexible but they are in place to help keep things running smoothly.
For us, in our house, we thrive on routines
Monday thru Friday I get up at 6 each morning and get my workout in
By 7 I am done, showered, and dressed
Between 7 & 8 little mr wakes up needs milk and breakfast
Between 9-11:30 we play, learn, watch a movie, I start laundry or little household tasks
Between 11:30-12:30 little man goes for his nap
Nap time ranges in time but I sit at my desk and have office hours throughout nap time
Nap time finishes (between 2:30-3:30) little man get up and has lunch
Around 4 we go outside for some fun in the sun
5 pm we come inside to cool down (Florida is hot) and I start dinner prep
6:30 we have dinner as a family
7 is bath time
7:30 is pre-bed time book reading, playing, singsong
8-8:30 is bed time
8:30-9 I pick up from the day, load the dishwasher, put away laundry
9-10 I work on any projects left for the day
10 it’s mommy time or mommy daddy time
This is pretty much an every day thing for us. Weekends vary depending on my SO’s schedule and if we can plan a family day. The 9-11:30 or 4 pm slots can also be used for running errands, like grocery shopping, if needed.
4. Delegation
While most days you are a one woman show you can’t do it all day everyday or you’ll burn out quickly (trust me I know!). Whether or not you have another supportive adult in your house you MUST divide tasks so that you can have a break now and then. Either pass some chores off onto your spouse, hire someone, team up with other moms to help out, whatever you’ve got to do, just share the responsibilities.
In our house, once a week, the big Mr. has the chore of mowing grass, trimming shubbery, all outdoor up keeping. A few times a week my neighbor and I get together for a mommy break where we will run errands (extra set of hands can be so helpful while shopping), watch each others kiddos to give the other a break, or whatever else is needed.
Delegate and lighten your load.
5. Nurturing Relationships
While everyone is SUPER busy it is still very important to nurture the relationships you have with your friends and family. Without a support system life can be very difficult.
These habits to get into aren’t rocket science but they can be difficult when you first try to establish them. They are also very important to your sanity, productivity, and mompreneur life.
If you aren’t sure if you have the “time” in your day in your day to make any of these habits a reality I PROMISE you do. I have a FREE worksheet to help you Find EXTRA Time in your day!
